If one looks back at the historical path taken to achieve optimum iothermal extrusion, it can be seen to be punctuated by a large number of inventions in machine technology and thermal processes. An important milestone was the introduction of the container back in the 1940's. At the time, only the pressure absorbing capacity was considered important. The container's role changed enormously from the 50's onwards, as con be seen in the historical manual no. 358 on dies and die steels, published in 1951, by Röchling Stahl. The whole of this fascinating story can be accessed on www.smart-container.com.
